Pen & wash, bound in leather, tooled in gold

This catalogue was made for the Empress
Josephine and was dedicated to her. It came
from her Library at Malmaison

A letter from Emily Sharpe, dated June 12
1910, presenting the volume to the Museum in
that year, notes that the drawings were `done
under the eye and in companionship with our
father [Samuel Sharpe], in the intention of
their together making an illustrated Catalogue
of the Egyptian Rooms in the British Museum’

John Dunbar supplies the information that
Alexander Charles, wright, burgess of Aberdeen,
worked at Fetteresso Castle, Kincardineshire
in 1671-2. He seems to have been
acting as overseer to the new house of Fetteresso
then building
John Jeans, mason, also owned the book

Miss Gandy's great-grandfather was Thomas
Gandy, a painter, Joseph Michael's son
